The Story

Dr. Julie Ducharme's Journey

Before the stages, the businesses, the books, and the movement, there was a farm girl in Central California. Growing up, Dr. Julie Ducharme helped her family care for 10 acres of citrus and orange trees. Long before she understood the language of entrepreneurship, she was living it. She learned that things worth having require work, that showing up matters, and that when something needs to get done, you roll up your sleeves and do it. The farm taught her grit. Her family taught her responsibility. And somewhere along the way, she learned that hard work could create opportunity.

Julie eventually followed in her father's footsteps into athletics, taking her competitive drive to the collegiate level through volleyball. She won two national championships before taking the game overseas and playing professionally. When she returned to the United States, her competitive spirit found a new arena. She became a professor at a remarkably young age and continued climbing through academia, eventually becoming a dean overseeing more than 20 business colleges. From the outside, it looked like the kind of success many people spend their entire careers chasing. But behind the title, the corner office, and the responsibility came a chapter Julie never expected. The environment became toxic, and eventually she faced a difficult realization:

"Sometimes the position you worked hardest to earn is the very thing you have to walk away from."

"Leaving wasn't the end of her career. It became the beginning of something much bigger."

Instead of allowing that experience to define her, Julie leaned harder into the entrepreneurial instincts she had carried since childhood. She continued building businesses, creating opportunities, and developing ideas that had previously existed alongside her academic career. What had once been a side pursuit began to become a calling. The woman who had spent years teaching other people how to build businesses began building her own ecosystem. She discovered that entrepreneurship offered something traditional employment could not: the freedom to create, to lead, and to build according to a mission rather than someone else's limitations. The experience that could have broken her became fuel for the next chapter.

That next chapter grew far beyond Julie herself. Today, she is a professor, speaker, bestselling author, serial entrepreneur, and the founder of Lead and Empower Her SHE Talks, a global platform built around women's stories, leadership, business, and empowerment. Through SHE Talks, 10,000 Women Rising, documentary filmmaking, publishing, events, and education, she has created platforms designed to help other women find their voices and build what comes next. Her journey is not a story about a perfect path. It is a story about knowing when a chapter has ended, having the courage to walk away, and refusing to let someone else's environment determine the size of your future. The farm girl learned how to work. The athlete learned how to compete. The educator learned how to lead. The entrepreneur learned how to build. And the woman who walked away from a place that was no longer healthy discovered that sometimes the greatest chapter of your life begins when you finally give yourself permission to write it.
